I believe deeply in the value of languages as tools of knowledge and the construction of reality. Respecting linguistic diversity means preserving inestimable riches. Connecting them through translation and interpreting is to multiply their value.

My name is Susanna Provenzale and I am a professional freelance translator and conference interpreter. Italian, English and Spanish are the languages in which I have been working for over 20 years, collaborating with small, medium and large businesses, private clients and translation agencies.

Ever since I was young I have wanted to translate words to create value

Italian by birth, I have been living in Madrid since 2005, following a few years of working in Ireland. Perhaps I inherited my love of foreign languages from the city of my birth, Livorno, in the province of Tuscany, which is famous for its multiethnic origins, a strategic Mediterranean port, with an indomitable, untamed character like that of its sea, a crossroads of peoples and cultures. The fact is that I never had any doubts about what I wanted to do when I grew up: convey the meaning of words from one language to another, to put different worlds in communication with each other, to participate actively in the flourishing of opportunities and knowledge.

My studies, a decisive trajectory

This is demonstrated by the course of my studies, focused since high school on languages and communication. Having taken the Diploma of translation and interpreting at the Scuola Superiore Interpreti e Traduttori in Pisa, I set off for Dublin, and from there to Madrid. This is the city in which I chose to make my home and further hone my linguistic skills with the Postgraduate Specialisation in Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting Course at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

This study path of mine is not one that I could say I have ever completely reached the end of. In fact, since I first began working, I have never stopped nourishing my skills and curiosity by continuously updating myself on innovations, new tools and specialisations in new fields. Such as the Specialisation in Medical Translation Course, followed by many others, which have allowed me to deepen my knowledge of, among other things, medical terminology.

My work experience

I began my career in Ireland, in Dublin, as a booking agent for major airlines, working in Italian and English. Spanish was added later when I was promoted to being a frequent flyers service agent for the Spanish market. In a little under two years I moved to the Spanish capital where I began to work as a translator and proofreader in a multinational tourism company, at which I also took on the role of supervisor. After 10 years of working as an employee I decided to become a freelance translator and interpreter and this is how translationSProvenzale was created.

I wanted to include my initials in the logo of my freelance business because I put my whole self into every job I do. Sensitivity, the ability to listen, and empathy are qualities of mine which in the past have led to my being chosen over many others to take on supervisory, quality control and team management roles. The same goes for the perseverance and precision which I have learned to cultivate since my first drumming lessons. Not forgetting the enthusiasm which I combine, they tell me, with the utmost sensitivity and courtesy.

I am proud of the role I play in communication between people and distant worlds. So far I have translated around 20 million words between Spanish, Italian and English, making my contribution to my clients’ success in numerous fields: tourism, marketing, e-commerce, fashion, luxury goods, videogames, medicine.
